It's true. She's trying to kill me. This morning she cried...and cried...and cried some more. She's gone beyond testing my patients, she's crossed the line into trying to send me into mental institution. Ok, obviously I too have a flair for the drama. But this kid, seriously...Academy Award winner. Why all the drama? Well, because she put on a t-shirt, and I (I thought kindly) reminded her that it's field day and she'd wanted to wear a tank top. Cue waterworks. All freaking morning. I almost kept her home from field day as a punishment, then I realized I'd be punishing myself.
After I dropped her and David off at school, I felt really bad for yelling at her. So I went home and got her bathing suit (she'd forgotten it in all the drama) and put a nice little note in a bag for her, just saying I loved her, things are never as bad as they seem, etc. I go to the school and track her down at one of the field day activities. She SEEMS like she's having fun...she sees me and smiles, comes over and hugs me. I say, I brought your bathing suit and just wanted to let you know I love you and hope you have a great day. Can you guess what happened next? Yep. Tears. Right there with about 100 parents looking on and in the midst of about 500 kids. Sigh. This is normal right? I'll have to ask my mom if I was this much of a drama queen...
Smile! You're on Candid Camera!
Kat's done a total 180. She's been an absolute dream for the past 24 hours. Polite, helpful, responsible...it's kinda freaking me out. She actually apologized for her behavior. You are now entering the twilight zone. Cue creepy music.
David on the other hand...David's been hoarding food. Sounds awful doesn't it? It's like an intro to a movie showcasing the mother who starves her son. In reality, it's not nearly as sinister as it sounds. He's hoarding snacks...granola bars to be exact...in his backpack! GASP! No, for real though, every morning he gets another granola bar and puts it in his bag, but he doesn't eat it because he likes to eat at the after-school program (apparently they have better food than granola bars). So instead of saying, no thanks, I have a snack from yesterday or actually, I don't need one, I don't eat it, he's hiding them in his bag. It reminds me of that commercial with the kid who stuffs all the pop-tarts in his locker because his mom won't buy him toaster pastries. I reached in his bag this morning and pulled out 6, yes 6, granola bars. That's a whole box worth! Seriously, sometimes I feel like my house is wired for candid camera.

Dancing queen?
"I’m not embarassed to say I like ABBA, ‘Dancing Queen."
Seriously? You should be.
Just so you know what I'm referring to, here are some of the lyrics, "You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen. Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine. You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life. See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen"
By the way, the man responsible for this little gem? John McCain. Words are failing me right now...
Some other insight from the same article:
"The image of the former war hero rocking out to "Dancing Queen" might well queer the idea of the Straight Talk Express."
Ok stop. Queer the idea? That's an understatement. The image of the crypt keeper "rocking out" to Dancing Queen is making me waiver between side-splitting laughter and nausea.

Ugh, Friday
Normally Friday's make me giddy, end of the work-week and all. Not today. This morning I spent literally 3 hours running errands and paying bills. I feel like I drove in one big circle...about 17 times, all the while thinking about my gas-loving Jeep. How irritating is it that not only is gas $4.02 a gallon, but also that I have to WASTE my gas because I have to pump the gas pedal to make it start right. Ugh.
Today was the first paycheck of the Dave Ramsey system. So far, so good. I got all the bills that were due today paid, and put all the allotted money in my little envelopes, stuck to the budget, etc, etc. Gold star for me today!
We're also having dinner with Dave and Kristy tonight, which is awesome. So...perhaps today is not an "ugh" day, but a "yay" day. Sigh. Chris is right. I really am a big gay.

McCain rules!
I was just reading an article, "McCain bumbles the delivery", and seriously just choked on my diet coke I laughed so hard. Best line ever, "The topic: Is there a way John McCain can win the presidency without giving another speech?" Why's that? Because he's old and crusty and can't talk his way out of a paper bag? Yes...actually, "McCain’s speech, his “Kermit the Frog” green backdrop, even his physical appearance were fodder for scores of worried e-mails and phone calls Tuesday and Wednesday between Republican donors, operatives and lobbyists. One Republican strategist who has worked on past national campaigns said he received messages during the night from GOP loyalists in every administration from Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush. “They were appalled at the environment the candidate was standing in and his performance,” said this strategist. “It’s a serious problem — the contrast is so clear that it’s demoralizing. And it deflated our balloon last night. When the guys on Fox are trash-talking, you know it’s bad.”"
Kermit the Frog. I love it.
Kermit the Frog. I love it.
Merritt the Blogger
So here's me...joining the world of the blogger. In a world of emails, text messages and cellphones, this almost seems like a natural progression. Perhaps it's just laziness, but isn't this just so much more efficient than getting out the pen and paper and writing until your hand goes numb? I'm thinking though, this is a great way to communicate with family and friends that I just don't get to talk to often. But again...it's probably mostly laziness because I suppose I could send a card, or pick up the phone. Lazy or not, here I am. Merritt the Blogger.
About Me
My name is Merritt, I'm a (newly) full time wife and mother of two tweens. I gave up my career to move across the country and start a new life for my family. "Life's a journey, not a destination" (Ralph Waldo Emerson...and Aerosmith) -- this is my journey.
This year our family moved from Maine (where I'd lived my whole life) to Georgia. I absolutely adore the South, I always have. My favorite movie, even when I was a little girl, is Gone With the Wind. I used to dream about being Scarlett O'Hara, and being a strong and brave woman, and always the belle of the ball. I yearned for cotillions, mansions, hoop skirts, and that famous red clay, as silly as it sounds. I promised myself that someday, I'd live there. My husband is from Georgia, so moving there wasn't as strange of a move as you'd think. One day we just decided we were done with Maine, and we bought a great little house in a great subdivision, in a great school district in Georgia.
The crazy thing is, Georgia is exactly like I pictured it...minus the mansions, hoop skirts and cotillions (they really do have red clay). I suppose there are mansions, although everytime I go in one, people are always shouting things at me like, hey, call the cops! Some crazy woman is breaking in again! But, I am the belle of the ball.

Chris is my partner in crime, aka my husband. He's secretly afraid of bees and other "wing-ed creatures". He’s rude, arrogant, a total smart ass, and which is of course why we’re a perfect fit.

My daughter, Kat, is a TOTAL diva. She’s 10 going on 20, and full of tween angst. She's convinced that the world revolves around her. Hard to imagine where she gets that kind of attitude from... My son, David, is impish and absolutely hilarious. He has a totally warped sense of humor: bugs, boogers, and butt jokes, anything gross and inappropriate. He's always a dinner-time hit. Maybe a little impartiality here, but I'm the mom of the coolest kids on the planet.
So that’s a little me and my crazy little family. And I do mean crazy.
